AT&T and Samsung Mobile Special Event Date: Galaxy S2 or Tablets

AT&T and Samsung Mobile are preparing for its special event on May 5 and everyone is hoping that it will announce the new Galaxy S2 to USA.

This special event on May 5, 2011 at 5 – 6PM will feature product demos and executive remarks, hopefully it is the Samsung Galaxy SII and if not then we would like what IntoMobile suggests and that’s the Infuse 4G for AT&T.

There maybe a chance that the event will reveal a new tablet PC could be an Android 3.0 Honeycomb beauty on its way who knows. The event could announce any of the above, or even a new Galaxy Tab or a new Windows Phone 7 smartphone, all speculation at the moment so just have to sit back and wait.

What do you think the AT&T and Samsung Mobile Event will announce? Please post all your comments in the area provided below. Have some fun

BlackBerry PlayBook Android Apps Demo Video

As you probably know it is Research In Motion’s intention to allow Android application to play nice on their BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, and apparently RIM has now demonstrated said Android app on their tablet at BlackBerry World 2011.

And of course we have a video of that demonstration for your viewing pleasure below courtesy of Slash Gear via Android Community and by way of Ewan Macleod at Socialcam. The video demo unfortunately only lasts 30 seconds so doesn’t really show a great deal.

Apparently Android apps for the BlackBerry PlayBook will each run their own virtual machine that are delivered to the user as regular shortcuts with the emulator auto-loading.

Word is developers will submit apps to Research In Motion independently of the Android Market whereby RIM will approve submitted apps themselves and the Android apps will be made available via BlackBerry App World.

So with that said, all you need do is head on down, hit that play button and check out this very short demo video of Android apps on the BlackBerry PlayBook…enjoy.

iOS 4.3.3 With Location Bug Fix Expected Soon

As you are probably aware iOS devices have a location tracking bug that tracks your movements, and Apple is aware of this and has said they will release a fix for the location bug with the release of iOS 4.3.3, which is expected in the next few weeks.

Well according to 9to5 Mac the guys over at the Boy Genius Report have got hold of iOS 4.3.3 but as yet haven’t loaded the operating system onto their iPhone, but they do have the low down on what the new OS will deliver.

So here’s what you can expect when Apple pushes out iOS 4.3.3…no longer back up the location database to iTunes…when location services are turned off, the location database will be entirely deleted…a reduction in the size of the location database…iPod bug fixes…improvements to the battery life.

So far that’s all that is known about iOS 4.3.3 but no doubt once the guys dig into the OS more will be found out, and of course as soon as we hear anything we’ll pass it along.

As reported here on Cell Phones Etc. and across the Web, here’s your daily brief on what happened in the world of mobile phones this Monday, May 2nd, 2011.

Apple to fix location tracking bug in iOS 4.3.3; due out soon
Apple promised an update to address the tracking issue, and based on this report, it looks like it’ll come in the form of iOS 4.3.3. It’s expected to be out in the next two weeks, if not earlier, and will make modications as to how the data file in question is handled, such as reducing its file size and disabling backup to iTunes. It will also be deleted if Location Services is turned off. These improvements are certainly a welcome development, but where’s the added encryption layer they promised?

RIM announces BlackBerry 7 OS with better browser and BlackBerry Balance, but no legacy support
RIM has officially announced the newest iteration of the mobile platform as BlackBerry 7 (formerly known as BlackBerry 6.1). This new BlackBerry OS boasts of an enhanced browser with HTML5 support and Just-In-Time JavaScript, voice-activated universal search, and BlackBerry Balance, a new feature that separate personal content from work. It’s a good step up from BlackBerry 6.1, but the bad news is it won’t be available as an update for old and current in-market devices. Sorry guys. You’ll have to buy a new ‘Berry to get a hold of this new BlackBerry OS.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 coming to Virgin Mobile
The BlackBerry Bold 990 is confirmed coming to Canada. Virgin Mobile Canada is the first out the door to announce they’ll be adding the BlackBerry Bold 9900 to their line-up. No exact release date was mentioned, but news that it is coming should be good enough for now. We’re expecting a host of other carriers to be making their respective announcements soon, and we’re pretty sure Bell will be one of them since they now own Virgin Mobile Canada. Pricing, understandable, is still yet to be known. More on this soon.

iOS 4.3.3 rumored to be coming within next two weeks with fix for location tracking issue

Apple promised last week that it would address the iPhone tracking issue in a software update in the "next few weeks," and BGR is now reporting that the update is coming within the next two weeks, or "possibly sooner." What's more, the site says that it's actually been sent an early version of the iOS update, and that it does indeed no longer back up the location database to iTunes -- the size of the database is also said to be reduced, and it's apparently deleted altogether when Location Services are turned off. Somewhat notably, BGR says that the update includes some further battery life improvements as well, although it also notes that it hasn't actually tried it out just yet -- it is promising additional details, though.
