Rogers Launching LTE This Summer In Ottawa
Rogers announced that their Long Term Evolution (LTE) network will get the green light in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Ottawa by the end of 2011, then another 25 markets in 2012. This will bring peak download speeds of up to 150 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 70 Mbps. There has not been a LTE coverage map released but Rogers states that when you are out of the coverage area ‘the LTE Rocket stick will ‘fall back’ to 4G HSPA+ (up to 21 Mbps) outside of the Rogers LTE footprint. If outside of both LTE and 4G HSPA+, it will ‘fall back’ to EDGE.

Samsung’s Biggest Android Phone Launch Yet Is Happening Next Month
Samsung’s Galaxy S 2, the Android phone that’s already crushing the iPhone 4 overseas, will finally launch in the States on Verizon next month. The launch was confirmed with Verizon by Slash Gear, which says the phone will be called the “Samsung Galaxy S 2 Function.” There’s no solid release date or price yet. Early reviews of the Galaxy S 2 have been stellar, and Android fans in the U.S. are eager to try it. Samsung will also release the phone on Sprint and AT&T later this year.

iOS 5 Imposes Minor Feature Limitations On iPhone 3GS, 3G Owners Still Bitter
Reports are starting to flow in from folks who’ve tested it, so let’s get the bad news out of the way first: yes, some features are being withheld from the iPhone 3GS. The good news? They’re much more minor than we feared. So far, it appears that full Twitter integration and notifications are included; the newsstand and App Store are also intact, as well as the Safari reading list and grid lines in the camera. The only things we see missing so far are the photo editing features in the camera and the tab bar in Safari.

Several Windows Phones Now Just 1 Direct From Microsoft
Microsoft is currently offering Windows Phone handsets from three major U.S. carriers for just a penny each. Through the company’s online Microsoft Store, users can now purchase either Verizon Wireless’ HTC Trophy, Sprint’s HTC Arrive or T-Mobile’s HTC HD7 for just $0.01 alongside a 2-year contract with a smartphone data plan.
