HTC starts OTA Gingerbread updates for Desire HD and Incredible S
Yes, the much awaited Gingerbread upgrade for the HTC Desire HD and Incredible S has begun rolling out. This is as far as Europe is concerned though, and not the US/Canada. That said, since it’s out over in Europe already, we’re optimistic that it won’t be long now before we see this particular Android 2.3 upgrade released in other regions as well.

Bell releases the Samsung Galaxy 551
This ain’t no Galaxy S II, but it’s still pretty decent Android option, especially for those who need a full QWERTY keypad. The Samsung Galaxy 551 sports a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a 3-megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, and runs on Android 2.2. And best of all, Bell is offering it up free on a 3-yr contract. And if you get it before September 2011, they’ll be throwing in a $10 Visa Rewards card as well. Not bad, eh?

PaperPhone Flexible Smartphone Prototype, Responds To Touch And Bends
The guys behind the Amazon Kindly display have been busy as of late, and one of the fruits of their labor is a new flexible touch-enabled display. And to prove just how useful this new technology is, they’ve come up with the PaperPhone concept. It’s a working smartphone prototype that’s wickedly thin. In addition to the now common touch and gestures controls, this can also be programmed to respond to specific bends (e.g. bend the corner to navigate a menu). Cool, right? It’s probably still a long way to go before we see this tech hit the consumer mobile phone market, but it’s a good preview of some of the new treats we might be in for down the road. Check out the source below for a video of it in action.

SaskTel (and Bell) to release “refreshed” BlackBerry Bold, Curve, Torch & Storm in Q3/Q4
A leaked internal SaskTel road map outlines what’s coming to Sasktel soon, and though it doesn’t specifically mention the new Bold 9900, we’ re pretty sure the “BlackBerry Refreshed Bold” listed here refers to none other than RIM’s recently announced new smartphone. Along with the “refreshed” Bold are the equally “refreshed” Curve, Torch, and Storm all of which are scheduled to debut around the 3rd-4th quarter period. For those who’ve been out of the loop, prior to the BlackBerry World, the Bold 99900 was already outed along with a new Torch, a touchscreen-equipped Curve, and what’s purported to be the Storm 3. The Bold 9900 is the only one that’s been made official, but we’re pretty sure the others won’t be that far behind.
